Portland UK : Fishing on Chesil beach

Many a night has been spent here fishing, drinking a beer and chatting the hours away.
Just before sunset is a good time to get set up for the night. If you stand at the top of the island looking down you see a twinkle of lights scattered along the beach. Being so long it's always quite spread out.

It looks so nice and I will get a good picture of that the next time I see it.
On colder nights just build a little fire from the abundant driftwood.

Great place to get mackerel and on good nights you could get lucky and catch 20 odd, with 5 or 6 "feathers" on the line it's likely when you often reel in two or three a time. Pretty good sized too.

"The winch on chesil beach"

The old and still being used winch on the sea wall.

I like to watch the fishermen (of which I counted 3, sadly) winch the boat in after a spot of work.
It will be a sad day when this stops.

This really is a tradition we should hope to keep alive, one that went down through the family, passed from father to son.

The stocks will have grown, and will continue to grow due to the decline of fishing.

Line caught fishing we SHOULD support really.
