Portland Bill, now has a facebook fan page!

I know many Portlanders and ex-Portlanders are also on facebook as well as the Portlanders network which is linked in the bar above the post itself.

So I decided to set up a "Portland-bill.com fan page" for this Portland-bill site here, allowing all those on facebook to see it on facebook.

It is by default open to "everyone" meaning anyone on facebook can be a "fan" and follow it.

I had also considered adding "facebook connect" which would allow you to comment on the comment section below each post with your facebook name and ID as validation to this.

Unfortunately because it's not a self hosted site where I would have to upload to own host but rather a hosted by blogger site under my own domain.

That's a shame.

Nevertheless I would hope it didn't stop anyone from posting a comment below.
The comments from you readers are what makes writing the content in the first place worthwhile, for me.

We all know Portland bill is very well known across UK and indeed alot of the world, mainly the UK due to the fact the navy was based at portland for a long time and so many have come and gone over the years, alot touched by the beauty and uniqueness of Portland.

I know this because I have seen it when I have been in the far flung corners off the UK and people have said, "My son/uncle/cousin/bother/dad was in the navy there" and it's happened a few times.

Not forgetting Portland stone only being from...Portland!

So, in order for more of those ex Portland residents, and such to revisit the place, even if only in memories from pictures...the opportunity is there, hope many of facebook users will become a fan.

This is a great idea Rob, and I have no doubt it will be well used. Even though we have been down here for 36 years there are still things we are learning about this beautiful island, and YES, my uncle was here in the navy during the war years. His son, Bill, visited a couple of years ago and was very taken with the place, especially to see the waters his father would have sailed in (and the pubs he may have used on the 'strip'. Portland is a place you don't have to sell, it sells itself.

  2. It sells itself... how true. :o)

Hopefully I can get this site in front of more people with the fan page too.

With the next few years bringing some change, I look forward to "documenting it" and more.

  5. Hi Stewart,

Thanks mate, always appreciate nice comment. :o)

Pulpit rock, yeah, plenty of times when I was younger (and nuts!)

Mullberrys in the port is even higher and did that twice too!

I do NOT recommend jumping off either though.
