Portland Bill site possibly changing, again...

Portland Bill lighthouse!
This Portland Bill site may have some changes coming up, other than what I mentioned in the last post regarding working on a couple of things relating to Portland, things to share with you all, which will be as soon as they are finished, you will be the first to know about it, these other changes I am considering are a result of the last couple of months of keeping an eye on several factors.

I just wanted to share a few thoughts on this with you in this quick post...

Portland Bill, more possible changes and why

The biggest change I am considering at the moment is the platform, I have noticed quite a few very different results from the way wordpress and blogger differ, I am talking about the way the search engines do their bit and how they see the sites, considering blogger is owned by google it's pretty crappy compared to wordpress regarding SEO (search engine optimisation).

Plus the fact wordpress are releasing a new update soon to wordpress 3 which has some interesting features of the like could be a benefit to the plans I had... they improve it.

I have one peeve with wordpress having to have multiple dashboards with different log ins etc, so one for my other site, one for this... blogger having one dashboard for many blogs was one real benefit over wordpress, yet wordpress 3 changes that, so I could then have this site and my other one under one roof, far easier for me and that's just one benefit, I can think of a few more which would probably not make sense to any non blogging readers, so I won't explain them.

The changes blogger are making are really not happening fast enough and they're not good enough overall to make it really appealing to use it and keep being patient with them, been patient enough as have many others.

Wordpress 3 could be the tipping point for me jumping from blogger though it's not quite yet available out of beta, when it is, I will have to seriously consider it and jump in, YOU may like what I have planned, if I can set it up and do it right. :o)

Portland community

The hassle of moving the social site from one platform to another without the possibility of moving everything annoyed me quite a bit, I would much rather have found something I could import into, so as to save everyone else the hassle of doing it all again.

This is leading me to think about moving it to a self hosted alternative, wordpress is able to do this, and have control over it completely while being able to grow it without the worry of it being at the mercy of some other platform owners, like it was on the ning set up.

I could if it works out, using wordpress it could be a simple case of adding the community set up to this blog here as an additional page, or sub-domain, that would be something like community.portland-bill.com for example.

I am hoping whatever moves I make won't dampen your desire to read the site and be a part of the community portal.

Do you have any thoughts on that?
